Hi,

I wanted to let you know that this week is the last chance for any students or recent graduates to enter the CG Whiz competition for a fantastic opportunity to get started in the world of visual effects.

Throughout October we’ve been running a competition for aspiring CG artists to win a place on a 3D training course run by Escape Studios as well as a work placement with Oscar-winning visual effects company The Mill. There are also a bunch of other prizes up for grabs.

Details of the competition, including how to enter and other information are available at http://www.escapestudios.com/cgwhiz/index.html.

It would be great to see some more entries before the competition closes this Friday 30th October!

All the best,

Claire

Hi Manisha,

This would require quite a lengthy answer! If you are a student or graduate of The University of Manchester the best thing to do would be to book a careers appointment to discuss your job seeking strategy. To book either pop in or call 0161 275 2829, you will need your student ID number. If you are not in Manchester any more you could have your careers appointment by phone.

Alternatively login to the LiveGuidance and talk to an adviser there!

All the best

Every company will have different policies on whether they accept applicants with the Post study work visa. You will need to check on the company website or ask them directly if they do not make it clear online.

Hi there,
i just completed my Msc in E-business strategy and systems at the university of Liverpool, and would be most grateful, if you could advice if i am suitable for any of these schemes. i have a Beng (hons) in computer science and electronics from the same university, i don't require a work permit as i am eligible for the post study visa, however i can only apply for this in December as that is when i formally graduate
Best regards

If you want to work in the UK you would need a work permit. Find out about whether you might be eligible for work permits for the UK at how to apply: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/

Every Investment Bank will have it's own criteria of skills and experience, so to find out whether you are suitable you need to look at the company websites. Efinancial careers is a good website for identifying investment banking companies and jobs to start your research: http://www.efinancialcareers.co.uk/

There are lots of postgraduate 1 year degrees related to finance in the UK. You can search for courses at: http://www.prospects.ac.uk/links/pgdbase Look at the relevant university website to see the level of detail each course offers on IB and also for information on fees. You can also search for MBAs in this way.

You will need to contact the universities directly to ask about the job prospects after completing the courses but remember 1. the statistics they will have will be from before the recession which has very negatively affected IB recruitment and 2. You would be competing with many EU applicants who do not need a work permit. You need flawless English and top skills just the same as any EU candidate. Some international graduates do get jobs with IBs each year, but only a tiny proportion of the number who apply. It has always been a VERY competitive sector to get into UK, EU and international applicants alike, and in the recession it is more competitive than ever.
