Graduate schemes open now for 2010 applications (and a few for 2009)

apply nowJudging from the interest in my previous post on this subject I thought you might appreciate a list of the companies which have already opened applications for 2010 entry.

Why the rush?

Because these companies are starting to shortlist NOW, they will be inviting the first candidates to interview in September in many cases!  If you apply early you will get a head start on all but the most organised 2010 graduating students.  The earlier you apply the better your chances of success.

A word of warning

The need for speed is no excuse for a sloppy application.  These companies are looking for strong applicants, and in these tough economic conditions they will have lots to choose from.  Get help from us to make your applications as strong as possible.

  • KPMG – Audit applications open now. (Also some 2009 opportunities still available in Audit, Advisory & Japanese Tax).
  • Deloitte - wide range of roles available for 2010 now, some vacancies also still available for 2009.  To browse use their search opportunities function and search for all.
  • P&G – Entry management positions 2010 open now.
  • Goldman Sachs – Applications for all schemes open now
  • PWC – Not much open yet for 2010 but with a bit of digging you can find a few jobs available for entry within the next year such as Forensic Technology Solutions in Birmingham starting in September 2009 and Performance Improvement Consulting in London starting in either April or autumn 2010.

    • If you want to work in the UK you would need a work permit. Find out about whether you might be eligible for work permits for the UK at how to apply: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/

Every Investment Bank will have it’s own criteria of skills and experience, so to find out whether you are suitable you need to look at the company websites. Efinancial careers is a good website for identifying investment banking companies and jobs to start your research: http://www.efinancialcareers.co.uk/

There are lots of postgraduate 1 year degrees related to finance in the UK. You can search for courses at: http://www.prospects.ac.uk/links/pgdbase Look at the relevant university website to see the level of detail each course offers on IB and also for information on fees. You can also search for MBAs in this way.

You will need to contact the universities directly to ask about the job prospects after completing the courses but remember 1. the statistics they will have will be from before the recession which has very negatively affected IB recruitment and 2. You would be competing with many EU applicants who do not need a work permit. You need flawless English and top skills just the same as any EU candidate. Some international graduates do get jobs with IBs each year, but only a tiny proportion of the number who apply. It has always been a VERY competitive sector to get into UK, EU and international applicants alike, and in the recession it is more competitive than ever.

    • Every company will have different policies on whether they accept applicants with the Post study work visa. You will need to check on the company website or ask them directly if they do not make it clear online.
