Last month the Guardian launched the results of its Grad Facts survey for 2008. The survey explores the attitudes and aspirations of graduates, from their experiences of university to their expectations of careers. See if you agree with what the survey revealed:
68% said their time at university had been worth the financial investment and only 20% wish they had studies something different
Graduates feel their strengths on leaving university were in areas such as initiative, team work, IT literacy and that they were weak in areas such as numeracy and commercial awareness. Interestingly, those who had completed part-time work whilst studying had higher perceived ability across all skills. Getting work experience is obviously great for building confidence in your abilities, as well as the abilities themselves!
91% stated that a good work life balance was important and 67% want to work for an ethical employer.
Agree? Disagree? Does this accurately reflect our graduate class of 2008? We’d be interested to hear what your hopes and expectations are – so please post comments.
