Research employers and careers – Vault

Number 2 in my mini-series of my favourite careers information and vacancy resources.

The Vault Online Careers Library is a really great resource that is only available via a subscription. The Careers Service subscribes to give access to University of Manchester students, and graduates. To get in click on the above link and use your careers account login (often your old university login). If your university login does not work you may need to set up a graduate careers account.

Vault has lots of useful stuff including:

  • Impartial employer information
All of their profiles are researched and rewritten annually, and part of the process is to survey employees working at the company to give you the insider view of what it is like to work there. Employer profiles should be required reading before making an application or attending an interview!

Vault was originally a US company so they have profiles for loads of American and multinational companies, as well as lots for the UK and a growing number for other parts of Europe and Asia. Especially strong for banking, finance, consultancy and law sectors but it’s always worth checking if there is a profile for a particular company as there are some surprising inclusions (e.g. the United Nations).

  • Vault guides
70+ downloadable guides including titles on getting into careers, top employer guides for various sectors and interview/application/career tips guides. Some titles have UK or Europe editions, others are US but are still useful due to the international nature of the career under discussion (e.g. guide to the case interview or finance interviews).
  • Loads more – sector surveys, career advice articles, videos and an ‘electronic watercooler’ (that’s a forum to you and me). Have a browse and see what you can find.
