Moving away from Manchester?

Many of you will be packing your bags and preparing to head home, if you haven’t gone already. Being away from your Alma Mater does not mean that you cannot get advice and help about your career if you need it. There are two options: getting help from a university Careers Service near you or getting help from The University of Manchester Careers Service at a distance.

Many university Careers Services permit graduates who left other UK universities within the last 3 years to use their services, however it is not guaranteed. Some Careers Services will allow you to use some of their services and not others, some will charge you and some will not offer you any access at all.

So how can you find out what Careers Services are out there and who does what? A good place to start is the page on University Careers Services on Prospects www.prospects.ac.uk/links/gradreg. You can look for local services, find their contact details and see what services are on offer. However the details of services on offer is not always clear so I recommend that you phone the Careers Service you are considering visiting and check before visiting.

Alternatively you can still use your own Careers Service by phone and/or e-mail. For details of what we can offer have a look at the Help for Graduates page.

Undecided about which option would be best? It all depends on what you want to talk about. If you want to discuss a specialised career and your local university does not offer a related course they may not be able to help you very much. General topics should be OK though – again if you are unsure ask before you visit.

Safe journeys!
